In mid-August, the Spellings Commission on the Future of Higher Education approved its final report. The report will be prepared for publication and given to Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings in the next several weeks. Eighteen of the nineteen members of the Commission agreed to sign the final report. David Ward of the American Council on Education (ACE) was the only member of the Commission who chose not to offer his signature.

Just last week, the Chronicle of Higher Education and Inside Higher Ed reported that the Department plans to start a formal rulemaking process in the winter to investigate the regulatory changes necessary to implement the report’s recommendations.
